Rainbows

Ive been in a colorful mood lately and this post couldnt have been more perfect. Who doesnt love their ROYGBIV?
I decided to work with printed fabrics instead of solids and play with different background colors. Which do you prefer? Cream or steel?
Im going to quilt each stripe with a matching color thread, that way I can have some rainbow fun on the back of the quilt as well!!

Making it personal.

Hi it's Tiffany's Mom again.

I was working on a T-shirt quilt when I had an "aha" moment. I have a t-shirt from the 2004 super bowl that I wanted to include. The design is small and seeing it in a quilt would be o.k. but not really all that exciting.

My new machine can embroider letters so I decided to add a bit more to the block. Now it is a conversation starter!

I had to buy a little stabilizer and a spool of thread but it changed a kind of plain block into something really interesting. If you are considering making a memory quilt or having us make one for you, remember that the little extra embellishment can make a huge difference!

Mom

From Momma, My new Bernina 830

My class project!
This machine can quilt beautiful patterns .
It makes button holes automatically!
It does lettering for Monograms!!!
Here is my new machine with out the embroidery module attached. I can't wait to fly solo on this thing! But first I have to master a few basics.....

From Momma

Hi, I am Tiffany's mom! She wanted me to share with you so here goes!

When I was three years old I fell in love! My grandma had an old treadle sewing machine. When you stepped on the bottom cool things happened up top. One day I decided to jump up and down on it while Grandma was not there to stop me. The feed dogs grabbed my thumb into the machine and the needle made three stitches before breaking off in my finger! LOVE HURTS OUCH!!!!

OK, Fast forward almost 50 years, I am still in love with sewing machines and this week I bought a Bernina 830! It cost almost as much as a car but love is not cheap. Before I was allowed to give them any money I went to a pillow party to have some hands on time with the demo machine. Then after I purchased the machine the sales rep. spent two and a half hours going over the basics BEFORE I was allowed to take it home. I am now signed up for a 3 hour class once a week from now until the middle of April. There is a big learning curve here and I feel a little like my three year old self standing before a fascinating piece of machinery!

I'll post a picture of the pillow I made in class. And I hope to share with all of you as I learn, all over again, how NOT to sew your fingers into the machine.

Love,
Momma

Life Lesson - Polka Dots

Now we all know there's too much of a good thing and some polka dots are better left on the sale rack. BUT a good solid polka dot or "dot" print can bring together a quilt or project, add interest to a solid without overwhelming or be just plan fun. Small, medium, large, whites or brights look to a polka dot next time you think your crafty projects missing something . . .

  • See Polka Dots are everywhere-

It getting colder outside makes me want to knit, purl.

A Memo from Momma

So, we were talking about quilt love, here are a few more ways to use the quilts you love,

4. Take it with you to those cool weather sporting events. A small quilt is easy to pack and fun to share with a friend.

5. Hang it on the stairway wall, unlike art with glass in it, it will bend to a curve and it's no big deal if it gets hit by that ball no one threw.

6. Fold it over your sleeping pillows at the head of the bed. It's a great pop of color without all the fuss of a jillion expensive decorator pillows.

Let me know how you use the quilts you love.
